How to express that someone or something is connected by family, relevance, or association.
To say that someone is a family member of someone else.

Similar to 関係している, but often used for more formal or systematic connections. 関連 (かんれん) is 'connection'.
To say that someone is connected to a person, organization, or event.
Common way to say A has a connection with B. Can be used for people, groups, or events.
彼はその事件と関係がある。
He is related to that incident.
Implies involvement or being mixed up in something. 関わる (かかわる) can have a nuance of being involved, sometimes negatively.
While 関係 (かんけい) means 'relation', using it for family relationships can sound like 'having an affair' or a non-familial connection. For blood/marriage ties, use 親戚 (しんせき) or 家族 (かぞく).
Says A and B are relatives. Useful when both parties are mentioned.
田中さんと鈴木さんは親戚です。
Mr. Tanaka and Mr. Suzuki are related.

This research is related to medicine.
Literally 'A is something about B'. Casual way to say it's related to a topic.
