The most common and natural way to say 'liven up' a party or event. Literally means 'to raise the excitement'.

To energize or invigorate a gathering. Slightly more formal than 盛り上げる.

盛り上げる is the go-to word for livening up parties and social events. 活気づける is more about injecting energy into a person or a somewhat formal setting. Using 盛り上げる for a person can sound odd unless you mean making them the life of the party.
彼は会議を活気づけたが、パーティーを盛り上げた。
He livened up the meeting (energized it) but livened up the party (made it fun).
Do not translate 'liven up' literally as 生き生きさせる or 生き返らせる unless you mean to revive something from near death. For everyday situations, use the options above.
