The most direct translation for "way to do something." Attach 方法 (houhou) to the dictionary form of a verb.

Similar to 方法, but slightly more about the manner or how-to. Often used in set phrases like 仕方がない (shikata ga nai, "it can't be helped").

Means or measure, often implying a practical or strategic way. More formal than 方法.
目的を達成するための手段を考えよう。
Let's think of a way to achieve the goal.
Expresses "try doing something as a way to see what happens." Not a direct translation of "way," but often used when suggesting a method.
彼に聞いてみたら？
Why don't you try asking him? (as a way to find out)
Which way; the direction something faces or moves.
General word for direction. Use with こっち/そっち/あっち/どっち (this/that/that over there/which direction) in casual speech.
駅はどっちの方向ですか。
Which way is the station?
風の方向が変わった。
The wind changed direction.
Compass direction or bearing. More specific than 方向.
Orientation or the way something faces. Often used for objects.
この机の向きを変えてください。
Please change the direction this desk is facing.
The way to a place; a physical path.
Road, path, or way. Can be literal or metaphorical.

The English word "way" is sometimes borrowed as ウェイ (wei) in Japanese, but it is only used in very specific contexts like "highway" (ハイウェイ) or as slang for "excitement" (e.g., ウェイ系). Do not use ウェイ to translate general meanings of "way."
方法 (houhou) is the most general "method." 仕方 (shikata) often implies a manner or how-to, and is common in set phrases. 手段 (shudan) is a means or measure, often strategic. For "way to do X," 方法 is usually safest.
The suffix 方 can be read かた (kata) when attached to verb stems to mean "way of doing," e.g., 書き方 (kakikata, way of writing). It can also be read ほう (hou) to indicate direction or choice, e.g., こっちの方がいい (this way is better).
