window, pane
窓 centers on an opening that lets light or air through: a window or pane. It is the physical framed opening in a wall, not an abstract concept.
窓 combines 穴 (hole, cavity) with a lower part that historically represented a window frame or lattice. The modern form uses 厶 and 心, but these are simplified shapes and do not reflect the original components.
The top 穴 is a hole, and below it the shapes 厶 and 心 look like a framed opening with a heart-shaped latch. Picture a window cut into a wall, with a small heart-shaped lock keeping it closed.
For ソウ, imagine looking through a window and seeing the soul (ソウ) of the house outside: soul -> ソウ, and the window reveals it.
