expression, i-adjective
beyond one's control; nothing one can do
Expresses that a situation is out of one's hands; there is no action one can take to change it. Often used in resigned or helpless contexts.
もうどうすることもできない。
There's nothing more I can do.
彼の決断はどうすることもできなかった。
His decision was beyond my control.
Similar meaning, but どうしようもない is more common and often used attributively (e.g., どうしようもない人). どうすることもできない emphasizes the lack of possible action more explicitly.
Phrase composed of どう (how), する (to do), 事 (thing), も (also), 出来ない (cannot do). Literally 'cannot do anything about it'.
