Links a reason or cause to what follows. Compared with から, ので often sounds a little more objective, explanatory, or polite. After nouns and na-adjectives, use な＋ので, as in 休みなので.

Sentence-initial ので refers back to a previous statement, roughly 'therefore' or 'for that reason.' This use is dated or colloquial; in standard modern writing, なので, そのため, or したがって is usually more natural.

• 古ふるい文ぶん章しょうでは、「ので、彼かれは出しゅっ発ぱつを延えん期きした」のように文ぶん頭とうで使つかわれることがある。

  In older writing, ので may be used at the start of a sentence, as in 'Therefore, he postponed his departure.'
