noun
impostor syndrome
A psychological pattern where an individual doubts their accomplishments and fears being exposed as a fraud, despite evidence of their competence.
彼女は成功しているのに、インポスター症候群に悩まされている。
Even though she is successful, she suffers from impostor syndrome.
Borrowed from English 'impostor syndrome', a term coined in 1978 by psychologists Pauline Clance and Suzanne Imes. The Japanese form combines the katakana loanword インポスター with 症候群 (syndrome).
