rear shrine; inner shrine
A shrine building located behind the main hall (本殿) of a Shinto shrine, dedicated to the same deity. Often found in mountain or large shrine complexes. Compare with 奥社 (おくしゃ), which is a separate branch shrine deeper in the precincts.
