Used to state the real situation, often contrasting with appearances or assumptions. Similar to 実際は, but slightly more emphatic or conversational.

As a matter of fact, there is almost no budget left.
Almost synonymous, but 実際のところ is slightly more conversational and often used to reveal a hidden truth or personal opinion.
Phrase composed of 実際 (actuality, reality) + の (possessive particle) + ところ (place, point). Literally 'at the point of reality', it developed into an adverbial expression meaning 'in fact'.
