Describes a person who is emotionally generous, accepting, and not easily upset by others' actions or opinions. Often used to praise someone's character.

Sumo-specific term for a rikishi whose physique makes it difficult for opponents to get a firm hold on the mawashi. Not used in general contexts.
あの力士は懐が深いので、相手はまわしを取るのに苦労する。
That rikishi is tall with a long reach, so his opponent struggles to grab his mawashi.
