adverb
even if I say so myself; for me (to do such a thing)
Expresses self-aware surprise, admiration, or criticism about one's own action or quality. Often used when the speaker finds their own behavior unexpected or noteworthy.
我ながらよくやったと思う。
I think I did a good job, even if I say so myself.
我ながら情けないミスをした。
I made a pathetic mistake, even for me.
Similar meaning but less common; 我ながら is the standard expression.
Compound of 我 (ware, 'I') and ながら (nagara, 'while, although'). Literally 'while being myself', it developed the sense of 'even for me' or 'even if I say so myself'.
