To force someone into a confined space and keep them there, often against their will. Can be used literally (locking in a room) or figuratively (suppressing feelings).
犯人は被害者を地下室に押し込めた。
The criminal shut the victim up in the basement.
彼は怒りを胸に押し込めて、黙っていた。
He bottled up his anger and stayed silent.
