攀はん縁えん

Archaic term for climbing, especially using hands and feet to scale a surface. Not used in modern Japanese; replaced by 登攀 (とうはん) or よじ登る.

• 古ふるい文ぶん献けんに「攀はん縁えんして崖がけを越こゆ」とある。

  An old text reads, 'They climbed and crossed the cliff.'
