Used when someone's action or statement is not typical of their personality or usual behavior. Often used in the pattern 〜が柄にもなく or 〜なんて柄にもない.

• 彼かれが泣なくなんて柄がらにもない。

  It's out of character for him to cry.

• 柄がらにもなく緊きん張ちょうしてしまった。

  Uncharacteristically, I got nervous.
