正せい座ざ

The traditional Japanese formal sitting posture: kneeling with the tops of the feet flat on the floor and sitting back on the heels. Used in martial arts, tea ceremony, and formal occasions.

• 茶さ道どうの稽けい古こでは、正せい座ざをして先せん生せいの話はなしを聞ききます。

  During tea ceremony practice, we sit in seiza and listen to the teacher.

• 長ちょう時じ間かん正せい座ざをしていると、足あしがしびれてしまいます。

  If you sit in seiza for a long time, your legs will go numb.
