白いシャツがすぐ汚れる。
White shirts get dirty quickly.
雨で靴が汚れた。

become sullied; become corrupted; lose chastity
Figurative or moral soiling: reputation, purity, or chastity. The cross-reference to けがれる suggests a more serious or spiritual taint, but よごれる is used for lighter moral staining.
