Another reading of the same kanji, also an obsolete unit of area but equal to 300 tsubo (approx. 991.74 m²), i.e., 10 times larger than せ.
The historical derivation of the unit せ is uncertain; the kanji 畝 is conventionally associated with agricultural land measurement.
