An awning is a roof-like cover extending from a building to provide shade or shelter. In Japanese, the most common word is 日除け (ひよけ), but specific terms exist for different types.

日除け (ひよけ) is the broadest term for anything that blocks the sun, including awnings, blinds, and sunshades. オーニング specifically refers to modern fabric awnings, often retractable. 庇 (ひさし) is an architectural term for eaves or a small roof projection, but can also mean a fixed awning over a storefront.
テント means 'tent' and is not used for awnings attached to buildings. Use 日除け or オーニング instead.
