組み立てる is for physical assembly (furniture, models). まとめる is for organizing information, ideas, or scattered items into a coherent whole. Using 組み立てる for a report would sound like you are physically constructing it.

The English phrase 'put together' is very broad. Directly translating it as 一緒に置く (issho ni oku) is unnatural. Always choose a verb that matches the specific action.
