Used when a man marries a woman; the subject is male and the object is female. Somewhat formal or literary; in casual speech 結婚する is more common.
彼は幼なじみの女性を娶った。
He married his childhood friend.
長男は隣村の娘を娶る
The eldest son was to take a wife from the neighboring village.
