Auxiliary use after a verb in て-form. Indicates that the subject has someone else perform the action, often as a favor. The person doing the action is marked with に.

• 母ははに料りょう理りを作つくってもらった。

  I had my mother cook for me.

• 友とも達だちに宿しゅく題だいを手伝てつだってもらう。

  I'll get a friend to help me with my homework.

godan verb (-u), transitive verb

have (a fight, match) in hand; be sure of winning

Idiomatic use, often in the form もらった or もらったも同然, meaning victory is as good as secured. Common in sports and competitive contexts.

• この試し合あいはもらったも同どう然ぜんだ。

  This match is as good as won.

• 彼かれは優ゆう勝しょうをもらったようなものだ。

  He practically has the championship in the bag.

catch (a disease); contract; be affected by

Used for catching illnesses or being affected by something undesirable. Often with 風邪, 病気, or 伝染病.

• 風邪かぜをもらってしまった。

  I caught a cold.

• 彼かれからインフルエンザをもらったかもしれない。

  I might have caught the flu from him.
