godan verb (-su)
Used for gently persuading or soothing someone, often by saying what they want to hear or by flattering them. Common in everyday speech.
泣いている子供をすかして、やっと笑わせた。
I coaxed the crying child and finally made him laugh.
彼女は怒っている上司をうまくすかして、機嫌を直してもらった。
She skillfully humored her angry boss and got him back in a good mood.
